BRUNSWICK COTTAGE – Blue door opposite Emporium Gifts

BRUNSWICK is an 18th century fisherman’s cottage that has been refurbished to a very high standard to provide all modern amenities. Brunswick provides a relaxed environment for holidays and long weekends, to allow you to recharge your batteries.  Brunswick is on three floors. The ground floor is a fabulous sociable area incorporating lounge, kitchen and entertainment section. Brunswick includes central heating fuelled by a log burning fire, and has two double bedrooms with large comfortable double beds. The master bedroom includes a flat screen TV and large fitted wardrobes. There are hairdryers, bed linen and towels provided at the cottage. Each bedroom has its own bathroom. The first floor master bedroom includes a shower room, and the top bathroom includes a roll top bath. The top landing is large, and we have placed a futon sofa bed there for two further guests (please note, this space becomes rather small when the futon is extended and is suitable for short stays only – it is not an extra room). The kitchen is well kitted out. We are keen cooks and as you would expect, we have a large range of cook wear. Facilities include a dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and high spec oven/ hob. In the lounge there is a large flat screen television with surround sound, and a DVD player, log burning fire, a small library of books, information on local attractions, and for rainy days there is a collection of games. Wireless broadband will be available from Nov 2007. Please feel free to bring your laptops, DVDs and music CDs for entertainment. We are keen to provide everything necessary to give you a relaxing stay. All this is under the eye of our housekeeper Gerald, formerly butler to the Farquarson-Devereux family.

Parking is limited in Staithes old town.If you're loading or unloading you can stop for a short while outside our property, but it is likely you will be blocking the narrow streets, so please do not leave your car there for a long period. There are some parking spaces, but these are private and for permanent residents only. Please be warned that wheel clamps are used in some places. If you are a day tripper, you are best leaving your car in the public car park at the top of the hill by the old station. There are over 100 spaces for cars and coaches. Charges vary from £1.20 for two hours to £5.00 for 24 hours all year round. If you do buy a long stay ticket, it is also valid for the other car parks in the Scarborough Borough area, including those at Whitby. You can contact Scarborough Borough Council, who operate the car park, by telephoning free on 0800 0568458 (9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday). If you are staying for a longer period in one of the holiday cottages, guest houses or hotels then you could book a place for your car at Glen Vale, telephone 01947 840590. Here you can reserve a space for £4.50 per day or £31.50 per week and the site is monitored by CCTV. You can then go out knowing that when you return, you have somewhere to park your car. FIRE & HEATING

Heating – to heat the cottage at at Brunswick you will need to light the Log stove. This is not difficult. Kindling is available for you in the green bunker outside the front door. Firelighters are in the basket next to the fire. Logs in the green bunker.

Once the fire is lit, select on the time clock above the stove your desired setting auto or on. Please ensure you turn this back to auto when you leave.

LOGS AND COAL

We supply approximately two nights fuel for your stay. Fuel is inexpensive and the nearest place to purchase it from is the Staithes post office and Hinderwell garage. Most garages sell coal and logs, but we would advise you take a bag with you so you don’t run out. Once you are  snug, An open fire is the fastest aphrodisiac yet invented, although this is an additional service which we charge for.

Essentials for the fire - fire lighters, kindling logs and coal.
